Oral Histories
This site is under construction - consider it a work in progress. I need your help.
This new section is rather sparse, more of an outline than being informative or entertaining at this point. It has been added as a forum to share Oral Histories related to the area, not only from families which had passed member(s) who worked in the quarry, but also people in my generation.
You are invited to contribute if you have any family stories about the Quarry and/or the people who worked there, or tales about swimming in the Quarry, hunting or just trekking in the area.
This could add another dimension to the overall story, something that neither searching the internet nor the archives of Monson Historical Society can provide. Something that will likely be slowly lost with the passage of years.
If you want to write something yourself, please do so. If you are so disposed, and are comfortable using a computer, you can email to me at the address below. If you are not inclined to compose it yourself, I am willing to record and transcribe it for your review & approval. Nothing will be posted without your approval.
At this point in developing this part,
it will divided into four parts, 1) stories about the people who worked there; 2) Memories of swimming there; 3) stories about walking the roadbed and/or visiting the Rock House; and last, but definitely not least, 4) the coon hunters who roamed around in the dark.
I already have some interest expressed by both people who had passed family members who worked there, & swimmers/coon hunters.
Please email me at Dick Anable or call me at 267-3173. If you have relevant old photos and want to digitize them I have pretty good scanner.
