Maps

Maps are critical to this endeavor. In many cases, they provide clues or evidence of one another observations, and given the overall approach to provide as much information as possible, and encourage the reader/researcher to draw their own conclusions.

There are number of maps provided in this project, coming from a variety of sources, each with their set of challenges. I have provided some important maps for downloading - Click Map Index

Many of the maps provided are subsections of larger maps. If the map is avialable on the web, a URL or reference should be provided. (this is particualrly true of the topographical maps.

Other sources of maps include: 1) Google Earth and/or Google Maps; 2) From (old) monographs (books) available on the web, via sources such as Google Books; 3) Monographs not yet available on the web. 4) Amateur digital images

Google Earth and/or Google Maps. These are usually captured via 'Print Screen' or other screen capture utilities. Information can be added (in GoogleEarth) in form of placemarks or lines - these are usually mine, and if not, the source is indicated.

(Old) monographs available on the web. These are usually taken from pdf files with same facilities mentioned above. The quality (readability) can vary, particularly concerning on map labeling.

Monographs not yet available on the web. With the exception of cropping, which is not usually required with reasaonable sized books, the issues are same as with amateur digital images.

Amateur digital images. Capturing images of larger maps with a handheld camera - usually requires (to get a reasonable resolution,) taking multiple sectional shots. (My appologies for what may seem to some, to be a lack of professionalism - it has been a learning experience.)
