The Village
This presentation is organized around a wonderful Bailey image which depicts the village as it was in 1879. A few of the mills are not in this view, either because they were too far North of the central village (- the Moulton & C.F. Church,) or because they no longer existed by that year, such as the Bumstead mill and the possible mill at Teakettle Dam on Maple St.
Water power in the village was being harness as early as 1800 in the Federal Period (1776 - 1830)(Bumstead, and maybe Gates,) but things really evolved in Early Industial period (1930-1870)
Included is a Village Map folder providing early map images. However, where appropriate, enlargements are provided in the individual site folders.
