The Mills of Monson, particularly the mills in the central valley (on the Chicopee Brook) contributed to the general prosperity of the town (and made millions for the mill owners, including, Cushman, Lyons, Reynolds, Norcross, & Ellis.)
The quarries added yet another dimension to its character from the 1800s to the 1930s, particularly in terms of who came to work & live in Monson. The Flynt Quarry was the major operation, but not the only one.
The other known quarry was near the Keep Homestead and shown on the 1857 map. Actually, there apparently were a number of dig sites on both sides of the Paradise Lake Road. This folder deals with only two, the one on the Keep Homestead map, and the other on the South side of Paradise Lake Road, which is on the 1857 map.
